The Right to be Rescued

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many people with disability were left behind to perish. This compelling video includes first hand experiences and the setting up of the Special Needs Registry. Local authorities were found to have evacuation plans that did not meet disability discrimination legislation and were exposed to legal action. How many Australian local authorities have inclusive evacuation plans? This is a classic opportunity to examine policies from the perspective of universal design, not just think about accessible emergency shelters. The video has proper captioning (not Google captioning). A must watch video with first hand experiences.
