This video shows a wheelchair based on the gyroscopic engineering of the Segway and looks to be suitable for people with good upper body strength and control. It could be a transportation choice for people who find standing on a Segway for any length of time too tiring. It would be good to see this as a general transportation device – meaning it is good for anyone – rather than being labelled strictly as a mobility device for a person with disability or difficulty walking. Indeed, powered wheelchairs are good for getting around regardless of one’s ability to walk. While this might not fit with those pursuing the active travel movement, it might suit environmentalist aiming for less cars on the road.
