NDIS and the lack of suitable housing

NDIS, housing assistance and choice and control for people with disabilityAHURI logo

There is an estimated unmet need in affordable housing for between 83,000 and 122,000 NDIS participants at full rollout of the scheme in 2019. In the context of increasing individual housing choice for people with disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Ilan Weisel’s study examines how housing supply and existing housing assistance programs influence choice and control for this group. He calls for more accessible housing and the need to regulate the currently voluntary Livable Housing Design Guidelines (page 27 of the report).
