Barangaroo South – Beyond accessibilitiy

design for dignity guidelines coverIn developing Barangaroo South, Lend Lease have included social sustainability within their sustainability principles and practice. While they are aware of accessibility compliance codes, they wanted to go beyond these – they recognised that this was just minimum and felt they could do better. With the assistance of Australian Network on Disability (AND) and Westpac, they developed Design for Dignity Guidelines. It spells out the principles for going beyond access compliance to inclusive design in urban regeneration.

The Guidelines provide best practice advice with many illustrations to show what to do and what not to do. It includes public domain and workplace designs as well as retail and commercial space. An excellent resource for interior designers as well as urban planners.

Note: Ro Coroneos from Lend Lease will be joining the panel for the final session at the Universal Design Conference to discuss The Economics of Inclusion.
