The Place Design Group has taken up the banner for the WHO Age Friendly Cities and Communities program. With only a handful of Australian local councils taking up the opportunity to become part of the WHO Global Network of Age Friendly Cities, it is helpful to have yet another report and ideas to promote the program. The WHO promotes more than accessible built environments for older people, but this is the focus of the Place Design Group. With only 8 pages it is succinct and covers community engagement. housing, neighbourhoods, healthy built environments, green space, and parks. Although this document is essentially a corporate cv, it has captured some of the essentials to consider in age friendly built environments.
Twenty three Australian local governments are now members of the WHO Global Network, Whyalla, Salisbury and Fremantle being the latest. You can find out if your council is a member.
