In this TedX video Michael Nesmith, a creative designer with Amazon, explains how his deafness helps him create visuals for the front page of the Amazon website so that they appeal to the diversity of potential customers across the globe. He goes on to explain universal design using opening a door as an example. He shows how a round door knob is the least accessible option, how it can be improved by a lever handle, but best of all are automatic doors – even animals can use these! While followers of UD will not find anything new in this video, it is a useful reference for explaining to others who are new to the concept. The video has closed captions by Google, but the interpreter speaks clearly so it works in this instance.
