The 2016 Universal Design Grand Challenge brought forth a range of great ideas. The Centre for Excellence in Universal Design in Ireland holds these student events each year. The winning entries covered a broad spectrum – a wayfinding app, universally designed student accommodation, an organiser alarm system, and an automatic flood defence barrier. You can read more about the winners and runners up and their inventions on the Centre’s webpage.
The picture shows a section of the student accommodation at the new Dublin Institute of Technology college campus, which is based on the 7 principles of universal design. Megan Lee from DIT won the Judges Choice Award for Built Environment for this design.
