Community indicators for sustainable ageing in place

front cover of the reportThe Stanford Center on Longevity and MetLife Mature Market Institute published a study in 2013, Livable Community Indicators for Sustainable Aging in Place. It has an emphasis on housing, transportation, and social interaction.

While the focus is on older people, the indicators can be applied across all age groups. It differs from the WHO Age Friendly Cities and Communities program by including access to healthy food. However, housing, transportation and social interaction are viewed similarly to the WHO program. Also in keeping with the WHO program is the recommendation local people be involved in deciding what is most needed in their neighbourhoods as needs vary from place tfront cover of the Complete Streets guideo place.
